Follow along with us as we get ready to move into our forever home that we are building on land that has been in our family since 1884!

I have no idea what I am doing!

Hi there, I'm Kate and I decided to start a blog! I have no idea what I'm doing, but I hope you will join me for this new adventure and maybe have some fun along the way!

The original Gentry's Mill Farmhouse. This was the home of my husband's great-grandparents, and his great-great-grandparents, before that.

Why are you starting a blog if you have no idea what you are doing?

I've wanted to be a "blogger" for several years. I didn't start because I would always think, who wants to read what I have to say? The answer is...I don't have a clue, and probably no one, but I have a story to tell!

I Have a Story to Tell

I want to tell you the story of my life, my family, my house and what our everyday looks like on our farm. (I call it a farm, I don't know if it's really a farm, but that's what Randall's grandparents always called it, so we will continue to do the same.) I don’t really know what our story is yet. Maybe if you follow along with me, we’ll figure it out together.

I have never been a history buff, or into genealogy, but this farm has it all. The family roots run deep here and even if no one else wants to know about it, I want to keep an account for my kids, and grandkids, and hopefully great-grandkids, to look back on in the years to come. I could keep journals and notebooks and photo albums for them, and I do, but for some reason, I have a desire to put it out there for the whole wide world to read, too.

Every single part of this land, this house, this farm has a story to tell, whether it’s a story of our family, a story of the land or a story of people that I never knew. This little corner of the internet is my space to tuck it all away and for me to tell the story of the past and the present and the future.

The swinging bridge. The Leon River runs through this property. They needed a way to quickly access either side without going all the way around on the dirt road. Sadly, the bridge was washed away in the 2016 flood.

Friends Welcome, I Hope You Will Stay Awhile

As we started building this house and I started learning new information and remembering the past, I just wanted to share. I don’t know if anybody cares, and I guess I don't really care. This is simply for my benefit, but I hope some other people might enjoy it along the way. It’s going to be random. It’s going to be all over the place. It’s going to include a little bit of everything, but it’s my life, so here we go.

If you think you want to pull up a chair and join us, click Join Our Table and you will get an email each time I make a new post. I look forward to having you here!

Bye friend, have a safe trip and come back to see us.
